Decisions about the application

I wanted to go for the best, if I didn't get it, at least I wouldn't regret not applying.

Cambridge has international reputation for chosen subject.

It has a special reputation for Maths.

Preparation

yes

Yes, with my application (Personal Statements) and interview (two mock interviews)

Practise doing tests and talking someone through it. This can be daunting so the more practise the better!! If you come across something you haven't covered in school; tell them. They won't expect you to know everything!

Interview

no

no

yes

I had an hour test, of ten questions

The test was followed directly by an interview with two Trinty Mathematics lecturers. The interview was based on the test.

Examples of test questions; 1) What is the integral of x squared multipied by the cosine of x cubed? 2) How many squares can be made from a grid of ten by ten dots (ignore diagonal squares)?

A suit, with a "South Park" tie. I wanted them to remember me.

Impressions

Trinity is grand, and Cambridge itself has a very good student atmosphere.

The accommodation is basic, but ample. Good-sized desk (could be useful!). The room I stayed in has a shared bathroom, but I believe an en-suite is available.

Good

They put me at ease and were very friendly. They even offered me tea and cake when I came in (but I declined)!!

Helpful, friendly, everything they should be.

Final stage

The letter came through earlier than they said it would, which I took to be bad. I didn't think about opening it later, I just saw it opened it and saw my offer!

Looking back

Definitely, even if I had been turned down I would've regretted not applying, and there are other top universities.

If your teachers think you are able enough, you should apply. Don't worry about the task of preparing for your interview, if anything it will help your interview technique and A-Level studies.
