Decisions about the application

Oxford seemed a nicer place to study than Cambridge.

Favourable places-per-applications, extremely nice place, good tutors.

Yes - practice interviews and an interview training course by Applications Research ltd.

One was set an exam on the Sunday which was supposedly A-level standard Mathematics, but was really tough.

I had two interviews at my first choice college, and one at my second. My first interview was with two tutors - one Computing and one Mathematics, and my second was with three tutors - one Computing and two Mathematics.

One was asked to prepare answers to set questions provided the day before interviews. During the first interview one was expected to answer the questions from memory, then develop them. The second interviewers asked myself to sketch a simple graph.

Suit - I feel most comfortable in a suit, so I saw no reason why not.

Overall excellent, although some seemed to have lower standards of accomodation - they were quite inconsistant.

As I was in Oxford for 5 days during my interviews, I saw a lot of the college and its facilities - and was reasonably impressed: the rooms were of generous proportions.

Very welcoming.

Friendly, and willing to help.

Final stage

I was not too 'distressed' as such, because I had already received offers from universities as good as Oxford for Computer Science, and I have been made an offer from Imperial College which is widely regarded as only being second to Cambridge for Computing.

Looking back

Yes - because I didn't really lose anything other than 5 days in applying, and it was a good experience.

Don't worry too much about it - if you are relaxed you will most probably give off more of a confident 'vibe'. And if you are there for a long time for interviews (I was there for 5 days) then it's a good idea to make friends with the other candidates, go out and have fun with them rather than sit in your room biting your nails all week !
