Decisions about the application

It was suggested by my A-Level teachers, I came to look at Cambridge and decided that this is where I wanted to read for my degree.

Cambridge seemed more scientific.

Christ's is a small college. I wanted the feeling of knowing most people in my year. It is also very central in Cambridge: close to the departments / lecture theatres.

Preparation

yes

Small amount of interview technique. (NO STEP tutition at all)

Interview

no

I had three interviews. In the first we worked through some Applied Maths (Mechanics) examples, talking about what I had done in the past. Next was pure maths, a similar style. Finally there was a social interview with the Senior Tutor, I was able to talk about my own experiences.

The interview was almost entirely done on paper: the questions were simply mathematical fragments to work through. (A-Level standard)

Suit. I asked people at my VI Form and I was informed that nothing less than a suit would be acceptable. In reality anything 'smart' will do, but you need to feel comfortable.

Impressions

Very nice. Small, but spacious.

didn't see my college room, but the one I have is spacious, with a sink and a shower across the corridor to share with 2 others. The best rooms in this college are reserved for scholars (those who get Firsts). These are en-suite.

Good

Very approachable.

Final stage

Very happy

Looking back

Yes - I proved that I was good enough to get in. The experiences that I've had are execptional.

Make sure that the work that you have done at A-Level is comparable to what other students are likely to have done. I thought that I had had a similar level of mathematical input as anyone else, but it turned out that students from other schools/VI Forms had been taught far more than I.
